History of Kohler

By | Aug 24, 2009

In 1873 the United States of America was suffering from a financial panic in September, followed by a depression. Kohler was founded in these difficult times.
A man named John Michael Kohler purchased the Sheboygan Union Iron and Steel Foundry in Wisconsin. This firm produced cast iron and steel implements and castings for furniture factories.

Then in 1883, Mr. Kohler experimented with one of his horse troughs by heating it to 930 degrees and coating it with enamel powder. This was the first cast iron enameled bath tub, and thus Kohler Plumbing was born.

Kohler to this day continues this spirit of innovation. Kohler is a private company that was born in tough economic times and will survive and prosper for years to come.
