Steps To Solder a Copper Pipe

Eric’s Plumbing Tip:
How to Solder a Copper Pipe Joint.
1. Clean the fitting with a wire fitting brush.
2. Clean the pipe with a strip of sanding cloth.
3. Apply a thin layer of flux to both the pipe and the fitting. Use just a touch of it.
4. Attach the pipe and the fittings
5. Use a MAP gas torch to heat the fitting. The hottest part of the flame should just touch the fitting.
6. By experience you will know when to apply the solder. For novices, keep the solder touching the fitting while you heat
it. When it runs all the way around the joint stop.
7. Wipe the joint with a rag. Or, I have found that old seat foam works great. It soaks up the excess flux and it creates a nice clean look.
8. Leave the pipe to cool.
