Delta Faucets Parent, Masco Sales Down 17%
Comments OffThink things are improving in the home building industry? Masco’s third quarter results show otherwise, their sales were down a whopping 17% compared to last year.
The results would have been even worse if it were not for strong international results. Hansgrohe, a european faucet maker owned by Masco had a very good quarter.
The one bright spot is Delta’s new DST or Diamond Seal Technology which is a big hit with consumers. The faucets combine a durable timing coat with an Innoflex water way and PEX-C tubing for no leaks and a long life. Also, the water once inside the faucet it does not come into contact with potential metal contaminants.

Tips To Prevent Pipes Freezing in Cold Weather
Comments Off
For those of you who have moved to a colder climate. Here are a few tips to keep your pipes from freezing.
1. Disconnect your hose from the outside hose faucet. Failing to do this and if the temperature stays below freezing for a long period of time your pipes will freeze inside the house. The hose bib can’t drain properly and then the pipes will freeze and burst. This can cause a very large problem, depending on the location of the pipes and the outside faucet.
2. Put a insulated cover over your outside faucet. These can be purchased at a hardware store or one of the big box stores.
3. If the temperature is below 0 degrees. leave one faucet to drip in the home all night. This will let the water flow and will help prevent a freeze up.
4. Insulate exposed pipes in a crawl space or unheated basement.
5. Insulate the holes where the pipes to the outside faucet exits the home.
6. Keep thermostats up when leaving the home vacant.
7. Drain your outside sprinkler system.
8. Open cabinet doors that have plumbing near an outside wall.
9. When leaving for a long period of time, shut off the main water supply. This is only for homes without fire protection sprinklers.
10. Use Heat Tape for pipes that run in attics or other unheated spaces.

Rain Shower Heads
Comments OffRain Shower Heads are popular for many reasons. They are often installed overhead to give you the feeling of warm rain enveloping your body.
Choosing a rain shower head is an easy task. First, start with the brand of faucets that you are installing in your home. Then choose from their selection of Rain Showerheads.
A more important consideration is choosing the correct shower valve and system to work with your shower head. The flow rate for each item that you want to include in your shower is an important factor. So add up the gpm (gallons per minute) for each shower outlet. Then make sure your shower valve can handle the increased flow rate.
As a rule of thumb you would consider that 2 branched of your custom shower would be on at the same time. So if your showerhead is 2.5 gallons per minute and you have 3 body sprays at 2.5 gpm each, you would need a flow rate from your valve of at least 10 gpm.
Also, you will need a straight shower arm that is made for installing a ceiling mounted showerhead. Make sure you have a very good plumber with experience in custom shower installations.
By following these tips, your custom shower should go smoothly and it will be the envy of your neighbors.
